You can move mountains or crush them into molehills under this determined and self-directed Capricorn new Moon. It appears at 28^o of Capricorn – the sign of tradition. But its trine to Uranus speaks of a totally radical, revolutionary, and decidedly daring and untraditional approach when it comes to our ambitions, goals and the role we see ourselves stepping into.

We’re catching fire under this new moon. It fuses ideas with intention, fire with determination as it appears conjunct Mercury and Mars. Capricorn is the sign of authority. As in authority figures. Bosses, CEO’s, people who make up the establishment – politicians, law enforcement, government officials etc. But before we get too hung up on the pale, male and stale trope, ‘authority’ also contains the word ‘author’. As in self-authorship. We are the ultimate authors of our lives. Mars in the mix returns control of our path to us. While Mercury rules writing and communication. Uranus is about our individual journey and path. So, this new Moon invites us to author ourselves a new definition of what success and ambition looks like. And there is no higher authority on this than ourselves.

Knowing what we want is the first step to getting it. Capricorn is the sign which commits to the long haul. Mars hands us the fuel we need to sustain us. While Uranus picks out a different path to the top if we are willing to ditch conventional thinking. One that may completely bypass that mountain.

Capricorn along with Scorpio, is one of the most misunderstood signs of the zodiac. The staid traditionalist in a suit and tie who has lost their individuality by conforming to society’s expectations being one out-dated Capricorn trope. Rene Magritte’s paintings captured the Capricorn mystery perfectly. His self-portrait ‘Son of Man’ – where the face of the bowler hatted figure is hidden, is echoed in other works. Sometimes the face is obscured by a dove or clouds. ‘Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see’ – is how the artist described it. This perfectly describes Capricorn. Whose creativity or creative soul is hidden by a facade. This new Moon tears that down. Just as it exposes those hidden ambitions and goals we see ourselves attaining.

We redefine what personal success looks like under this new moon. And just like what is hidden in that picture, we realise that when it comes to those goals, we may have been waiting for ignition – but we were always on fire.

ARIES

This new moon appears as you are days away from what can only be described as a whole new epoch for you, Aries. With first Neptune (Jan 26), followed by Saturn (Feb 14), returning to your sign. So, this is the final new moon of the old era. When you can determine your course for the new.

This is a Cardinal new moon and conjunct ruler Mars. Do check your chart for factors between 26-28 degrees. I’ve talked about mountains which are Capricorn symbols in the intro to this forecast. And our ability to move them, find an alternative path to the summit, or even simply understand there is no mountain between us and what we desire at all. The thing that is hidden by what we see to re-quote Magritte. In other words, are you placing a mountain in your own path? Or is the mountain blocking you simply to make you choose an alternative route?

These are the kinds of questions Uranus can trigger. It overturns conventional thinking. Shows us a different take. Because the new Moon is in your house of roles and goals in life, you may veer off in a new direction. Change jobs or careers. Or if what you want to do, achieve or attain has felt so overwhelming your progress has stalled, you suddenly realise all you need to do is chunk down that big plan. It’s only ever one step you need to take at a time. That’s how you conquer mountains. Or turn them to dust.

Mars gives you the fuel you need to succeed. This can be a personal, life, or professional goal, but it has to fire you up. And it has to be yours. Not anyone else’s.
