Can you give more of yourself?

Many of the world’s great religions and belief systems align to celebrate the changing of the seasons, and bringing thankfulness and light in at this time of year. Which is why ‘Happy Holidays’ is the perfect acknowledgement of this. Merry and bright and hopefully more focussed on peace and real giving – it doesn’t matter your core beliefs or how you choose to mark this time. It’s how you acknowledge it that really matters.

Just a word at this time on loneliness. It’s something that can be easily forgotten about. And an aspect of the holiday season that’s ignored or overlooked. All those expensive TV commercials showing parties, happy families gathered around the table on Christmas Day. Sentimental rom-coms and re-runs of Christmas classic movies. We can come to believe this is the norm for everyone. But it isn’t. For some people the holidays simply aren’t happy. But a time when they feel even more isolated and alone.

If you are facing spending Christmas and New Year entirely on your own, or are isolated due to caring for someone ill or elderly, please understand this is no judgement on you, your lovability or your capacity for connection. Many many people – some of them hugely successful and popular, have at one time or another, spent the holidays alone. Please direct your spirit of giving and generosity towards yourself. And know this is not a permanent state of affairs. If you need to talk to someone but have no-one, The Samaritans maintain their lines at Christmas and over the holiday period. Do not judge yourself.

For those of you lucky enough to be enjoying the holidays with family, loved ones and friends – do check your wider circle of acquaintances and contacts for anyone you think may be alone or vulnerable. Also understand that people can be proud. They may not want to admit to you they are in fact, alone. So they may refuse an invitation or tell you they have plans when in fact, they don’t. If you suspect this, you can always invite them around for just a drink ‘If you have time to fit us in’ – and tactfully say they are welcome to stay longer if they do. Be the holiday spirit in disguise.

Pluto in Aquarius is all about communities and sharing. Get in the spirit of this if you are able to.

This week sees Mercury – now direct once again, repeat actions for the third and final time it made during its retrograde and retroshade. The 26^th brings its 3^rd opposition to Jupiter in Gemini – again, both planets are in one another’s signs so this is mutual reception. Invite the neighbours for that turkey curry buffet. The 27^th brings the 3^rd and final square of Mercury and Saturn. Harness your compassion, empathy and goodwill and look at where you can direct it.

Venus in Aquarius wants us all to have a wider, more inclusive love experience. It makes a highly unusual square to Uranus in Taurus on the 28^th. Unusual? Yes, that’s Uranus but both planets are like the Mercury/Jupiter opposition – in mutual reception. Venus sits in Uranus’s ruling sign, and Uranus is in Venus’s. This is a ‘hip to be square’ aspect. The usual square tensions don’t apply. What it tells you is to value who you know, who you are connected to and to get as inclusive as you can now. Your life touches that of others. Find more ways to extend this. It’s all in the spirit of light and giving. Happy holidays to each and every one.

In a nutshell: Mindfulness and inclusivity can be the best gifts we can offer others this holiday season. And they cost us nothing. In return, we receive that glow of joy. Look at all the ways you can share yourself with others.
