On May 25 2025, Saturn enters Aries. It’s been almost 30 years since Saturn last paid the sign of self-assertive, fierce warrior confidence a visit. Saturn has suffered from a bad rap in the past. Labelled ‘The Greater Malefic’ in ancient astrology. And associated with loss, austerity, restrictions, frustrations and lack. However, today’s astrologers see Saturn in a very different light. Astrologer Bil Tierney calls it ‘Your guardian angel planet’. While Liz Green’s myth-busting book ‘Saturn: A New Look at an Old Devil’ showed us how to lean into Saturn’s influence. And to see its perceived limitations as opportunities for growth, understanding and long term success.

Saturn rules time and fate (karma). If the time is right, it happens. And if time’s up there is nothing to do but bow to this. Those rings symbolise commitment. ‘Put a ring on it’

Saturn’s rings also symbolise what goes around, comes around. In more ways than one. What we set in motion has consequences. We need to own this. Saturn is the cosmic old school teacher. Genie:   Saturn is the friend like no other. And the one you never knew you had. Saturn will cement existing friendships with those who truly are your crew, band of souls or simply your kind of weird, wonderful and crazy. It will also draw to you your urban or soul family – those with whom you have created karmic bonds over many lifetimes.

It will teach you that the love of friends isn’t silver medal love. But as meaningful as the romantic kind. And in fact, is needed in order for one-to-one love to flourish and for a healthy existence. Openness and inclusivity will be important. If you reject others on the basis of any kind of prejudice during this Saturn transit – then it’s likely Saturn will keep you ‘All by yourself’ behind those rings until you change.

The big secret to freedom when Saturn is in your 9^th house of fierce, bold moves and a desire for expansion, is that the freedom you seek is actually found in creating support structures in your life. Establishment, commitments and saying yes (to the right things), release you to spread your wings. This is the Saturn paradox you will be working with over the next 2.5 years.

Back to themes of freedom, big dreams and where you want to go, Leo. This starts with having a very clear idea of where and what this is. Jupiter in your 12^th is going to assist as it will align your soul compass and boost your intuition. But you still need a clearly stated destination in mind.

Knowing where you don’t want to end up isn’t the same thing as knowing where you do. Think of it this way – you turn up at the airport and go to the check in desk. The clerk asks you what your destination is. And you reply: Oh, just put me on the next flight somewhere I can have a great lifestyle, the weather’s fantastic, there’s fabulous friendly people, where I won’t have to deal with all the $*it I get here. Within this over-arching theme of exploration, discovery and freedom through structure, think Border Control. Those rings represent the rules you work within. And will either keep you fenced in or others out. Our thoughts can keep us literally ‘closed off’. And no, that’s not Saturn’s plan either.

Saturn rules structure and rules. This is the house of the law. Don’t break the rules or colour outside the lines. If you are travelling to a very different culture – do you due diligence and have a ‘When in Rome’ approach to local customs. You may also find yourself dealing with the legal profession or even people in religious organisations now. This is your house of higher education. You may start university under this transit or gain further professional qualifications. This is your house of transformation, what you share (especially marital/joint assets), endings, rebirth, empowerment, legacies, taxes, wills, fears and insecurities, and relationships where sex is important.

Saturn rules fate. Don’t tempt it under this Saturn transit. You may think something is hidden in that vault. Or you have managed to get away with it – whatever ‘it’ is. But Saturn knows the score. Saturn is also old school. So, unlike Uranus and Pluto which can blindside us, it gives fair warning and an opportunity to change. Think of this as being summoned to the principle’s office at school. You get the stern talk. Maybe detention. You’re told next time the consequences will be more severe. You can take this onboard. Or not. But you were given the chance to course correct. That’s Saturn basics.

Saturn in this house in its Guardian Angel guise raises those red flags for us. We need to pay attention. They are telling us a line is being crossed. When we see these we need to channel our inner Saturn. Set clear boundaries. Show there are consequences. And if someone doesn’t take it seriously, enforce them. Business and money will feature. And this Saturn wants you to put together a long term plan when it comes to financial matters. Saturn in your 8^th asks you how you conserve and protect your assets. Or plan for your financial future. It’s time to take the emotions out of money matters. To be businesslike and practical. Which you excel at. Be this putting money into a pension scheme or getting a handle on debts. This is your house of negotiations and power.  Does something need to be renegotiated? Like your salary for instance? Saturn red flags in relationships in this house include attracting in a partner with financial problems. Sexually transmitted debt. We can avoid tackling issues because we are afraid. But this keeps us trapped. And disconnected from our truth. Saturn asks you to face up to what needs to change. And meet it head on. Seventh heaven. Karmic mates and fated dates. I know of a Libra who met the love of their life the last time Saturn was in Aries. Yes, the put a ring on it planet offers up exactly that in your 7^th house.

Saturn rules timing, fate and karma. This is why you can be on every app, go out and actively seek someone – but the real thing escapes you if the timing isn’t right. And if you have done all you can and nothing is happening, then it is time to bow to Saturn’s wisdom. And let go and leave it to fate. It’s important to remember that the other party isn’t on ice and ready to be defrosted. They are living their life, and potentially engaged in other relationships as part of their own readiness. Simply put – you may not have met them yet because they are not free. But destiny can and does play a role with Saturn in here.

Saturn tells you that you can’t hurry love. As well as having its own cosmic timing, you shouldn’t hurry the process. Especially if you’re seeking something serious. Or want a different result this time round. Saturn also lets you know – even if this is destiny, love still requires work. That’s the commitment part over and above the ring. We may dream of seventh heaven, hassle free, marital bliss or long term love. But that doesn’t mean we won’t have to continue our learning by working through issues as a team. And what we need to keep in mind is that even if we have a past-life history with someone – and are back together in this one, we don’t know exactly how this played out. Or what that karmic pattern is.

Saturn asks you think things through carefully before making that commitment. Or for that matter – getting out of a present one. Your choices will have long term implications now. We also can’t gloss over the fact that Saturn in the 7^th can trigger daddy issues. If our father was distant and unavailable – we attract a partner who is the same. The key to all this is self awareness. I don’t like to use the term ‘soulmate’ as it is misunderstood, over-used and can also keep us trapped in toxic relationships. But a true soulmate is more than just the person with whom we have a ‘happily ever after’ ending with. But the person who awakens us to a pattern within us and hands us the ability to transcend it. It may be this is the reason they come into your life this time around. And once they have done this, they move on. This does not mean they were not one of your soulmates however. And yes, you have many!

In ancient astrology, we were not considered fully mature until we experienced our first Saturn return at 28-29. Today there’s still a big argument for not getting married or taking that big step in relationships until we have experienced this. If we married or moved in together in our early 20’s, our Saturn return can put the union under pressure. And yes, relationships have a chart and are governed by Saturn. The old ‘seven year itch’ cliché times with a Saturn square. If we have married or are in a relationship for the wrong reasons, Saturn will call time’s up. These include marrying someone for their status. A trophy partner. Or for material security. Saturn rules integrity. Also time outs. Keep in mind that if you and your partner have been having issues, a separation can in fact give you the decompression and distance you need to get back on track. Or the time to really think things through before taking that final step of divorcing.

Bright shiny new karma. Put a ring on that, Libra. While Saturn in here can renew your connection to current partners (including business and working ones), and place that destiny driven love of many lifetimes in your path, it can also bring in someone with whom you have no karmic history at all. Business partnerships and collaborations are another kind of union Saturn favours. Your work spouse can be a source of immense satisfaction and also emotional support and encouragement. And together you achieve more than you would individually. However, if you are in an outside relationship, don’t cross or blur any lines. And please don’t be tempted to get into a relationship with someone you work with where the power dynamic is unequal. Or they have hire or fire power over you. This is a big Saturn no-no.

Saturn rules love for the ages. And age in any long term relationship may be a factor. This is different to those daddy issues I touched on earlier. Is age a barrier? Do you think you are too old now for love? How about a partner where there is a significant age difference? Say plus or minus at least seven years? It’s just a number, Libra. And Saturn now has yours.

SCORPIO

Don’t you just love those maps with the little red dot on them which says: You Are Here, Scorpio? Well, Saturn in your 6^th is a bit like that. It shows you exactly where you stand in relation to the here and now, your work life, your habits, routine and daily environment. And your overall wellbeing. Right here. Not anywhere else.

Saturn grounds you in your daily existence. This is a house of practical matters, daily duties and the here and now. Not the future, where you imagine yourself being. And it certainly isn’t about escapism. Time to get real. And if you don’t like what you see, to take a mindful and structured approach to changing it. One step at a time.

First this is about your work or Dharma. What you have to do or need to do to engage in the full time occupation of living. No matter how successful or rich we are, we still have responsibilities and things that are required of us. Our devotion to duty. Whether this is paid work isn’t the point. It’s about doing it. And being fully present as we engage with it. This is your house of employers, coworkers and employees. You can be a billionaire boss but you still need to show up. And you have a duty and a responsibility to your staff and potentially, your shareholders. You can only delegate so much. Your vision and guidance is a requirement of the job. And taking the rewards.

Saturn asks we step up and be ready to do whatever is required of us in order to get the job done. That we accept the terms of our employment for instance if we want that pay check. It also awakens a need within us for work that gives our lives meaning. We want to add something, contribute. And feel at the end of the day we made a difference. If your present job is not giving you this, you will go in search of one that will. Even if you are not engaged in paid work, volunteering, studying or even simply creating an environment that’s ‘nice to come home too’ for loved ones, can hand you the take out and meaning you’re seeking.

Structure is our friend with this Saturn. Time management, To Do lists, schedules, Work in Progress reports, plans – Saturn loves this vibe. And the more you lean into systems like these, the better and easier your job whatever that is, becomes. And life simply flows. Saturn has a ‘less is more’  approach. First – this means ditching multitasking. Saturn says one task, 100% focus. And then move on to the next. Second – declutter. Be this your desktop or that closet. This is the house of your everyday environment. Where you spend your time be it at work or at home. So, make your space sacred. And again, you can to this one step – or drawer, at a time. Ask yourself if you really need it? Or when you last used it or wore it? The more you are able to refine and release, the more energised you will feel. And paradoxically, you will end up feeling you have so much more.

This is your house of health. Saturn in here can change up your habits. For good. If you want to lose weight, this is one of the best transits under which to do so. And keep it off. If you have been struggling with health issues or even addiction, Saturn tells you help is at hand if you ask for it. Saturn rules professions such as medicine. Many doctors have a strong Saturn or even Capricorn stelliums in their charts. But bear in mind that Saturn rules the traditional approach. This doesn’t rule out complimentary treatments. But when consulting anyone about a health related matter, you need to ensure they are properly qualified. So no, that Tiktok influencer is not your best source of advice under this Saturn.

Saturn fitness approaches include yoga, pilates, resistance training and weights. That is because these are structured approaches. But any regularly scheduled workout that you commit to will hand you long term benefits. There are no quick fixes however. Certainly not if you have neglected your health or been living off ultra processed foods and energy drinks. But Saturn tells you – you have to start somewhere. And today is that day when you do.

Nobody doubts your ability to commit, Capricorn. But the flip side to this is of course – over-commitment. You take on too much in terms of responsibility. And you getting no support back. Perhaps you are shouldering a heavy financial burden. The main breadwinner for instance. Or having to care for someone with little or no respite or support. That’s not weakness, Capricorn. That’s strength. We all need somebody to lean on to quote another song. You are the sign that is so there when it comes to supporting others. Saturn now wants to ensure you have the support you need. Shut down Saturn makes you afraid to be vulnerable. And if we continue to buy into this outdated, stiff upper lip Saturn, we end up stuck and isolated emotionally. If we won’t share our real emotional state, others won’t share theirs with us. We’re literally at that point in this alone.

Support structures of all kinds will be in focus. From the bricks and mortar kind of your physical address. To your family unit, loved ones and source of material support. What keeps you safe and secure. What constitutes homeland security. From your country to your emotional state, you will look to protect what you love. And create whatever is needed to ensure its safety and longevity.

You will be able to access massive reserves of emotional strength to build something from the ground up which creates this. But again, look at taking on too much. Or the need to do it alone. This is your house of roots, relatives and also your path in life. Have you become ‘rooted’ in your ideas, to one spot or way of doing things? Let’s talk fruit from the tree, Capricorn. Did you fall far from your family one? What about those you care for? Has your desire to keep them sheltered and close tipped into keeping them confined instead of cared for and supported? Our emotional foundations begin with our experience of being mothered. When we are infants, this is key to our survival. Here’s the thing about astrology – it doesn’t judge. The opposite of this is creating that impregnable fortress. Where it’s easier to sneak into the CIA than it is to gain entry into your home. That Homeland Security is one thing. And of course you should protect what you love. But paranoia is the opposite of feeling safe. If you don’t feel safe where you live – despite reasonable steps taken which ensure you should, then again, you may want to talk through the reasons why.

Saturn offers you shelter. The place behind those rings. And sometimes home and shelter isn’t bricks and mortar or even found within the family we were raised in. People can feel like home. That group or community who offers those qualities I spoke of earlier –  caring, understanding, patience, nurturing, resilience, forgiveness and unconditional love. If so, you’ll move to be with them. Or perhaps there’s an area where you feel this. Whoever or whatever this is – first come home to yourself. Turns out there’s no place like you.

AQUARIUS

The smartest person in the room? Yes, it may well be you now, Aquarius. Just don’t lord it over others even if it’s true. Or feel the need to be right. You may literally be the idea whose time has come. Or have it. Talk is cheap however. And actions speak louder than words with Saturn in your 3^rd.

No use talking a good game. You had better bring it. Saturn doesn’t do yada yada yada, false promises or flaky. Keep in mind, Saturn is your old ruler. This is your house of the rule book. Saturn House Rules. You don’t say it unless you mean it. Or mean to act on it. Mulch. Ruminate. Take all the time you need. Saturn is about the proof and the delivery. It also adds weight to what you say. You leave no-one in doubt of your meaning. You get taken seriously.

I could also add know what you’re talking about. Saturn comes with a built-in BS detector. No, pants may not be on fire. But take it you will be put on the spot if you fudge the facts, don’t keep your word or the real Saturn no-no – lie by omission. Then you’ll find yourself with some real explaining to do. And yes, that Saturn antenna is attuned to others’ BS too. It will take a lot to get something past you now.

This is your house of education. The old school yard. First, Saturn can see people from your early years reappear. High school reunions are very Saturn through your 3^rd. You may re-enter education during this time. Especially post graduate degrees. And yes, you will want everyone to know about it. And yes, okay – a little bragging is expected. And allowed. Saturn in fabba ABBA mode? Maybe you’re having trouble picturing Old Father Time in that shiny jumpsuit and platforms. Money, money, money, Pisces. That’s your theme tune with Saturn now in your 2^nd alongside ruler Neptune.

So let’s start with the hard stuff. You work all night, you work all day, to pay the bills you have to pay . . . Saturn is traditionally associated with austerity and lack. The inability to make ends meet. Or we could take this one step further and say – a poverty mentality. There’s so many examples out there of people who have been cash-rich, but living as if they didn’t have two pennies to rub together. That’s a blockage within them. They may for instance hang on to money out of fear of that ‘rainy day’ arriving. Even though no matter how intense the deluge might be if it did, they have more than enough to weather it. There’s no get-rich-quick solution with Saturn in this house. But what is on offer for you is long term investment in valuing yourself.
